Abigail Clay |
Abigail Clay has been a German-to-English freelance medical/pharma translator since 1991 and currently lives in Vermont after spending a many years in Berlin and Seattle. She received a BA in German Language and Literature from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA, has been a teacher and trainer in various capacities, including teaching English to speakers of other languages, being an instructor for “Technology for Translators and Interpreters” at what is now Bellevue Community College’s translation and interpretation certificate program in Bellevue, Washington, USA, and providing software/hardware training for specialized audiovisual equipment used in clinical trials. Jamie Lucero |
Jamie Lucero has been a French to English translator and translation tools expert for over 15 years. After receiving his M. A. in Translation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 2001 and working as a translator and in-house translation tools administrator, he served as a Program Manager of the Bellevue College Translation & Interpretation Professional Certificate Program outside Seattle and as a board member for the Northwest Translators & Interpreters Society, a chapter of the American Translators Association. Currently he offers freelance translation and editing, and translation tools consulting and training at his company, Morning Star Translations. I was born in Vila Real de Santo António, where I have lived until I got married. After a break of eleven years, I decided to go back to school and get a degree in translation, somehow to complete my professional profile. This path has been exciting, and has led me to complete my doctorate, this time in Granada, Spain. Reginaldo Francisco |
Reginaldo Francisco is an English- and Italian-to-Portuguese translator. He works mainly with literature and texts in the field of quality management, compliance, people management and technology. He has a bachelor’s degree in translation from the São Paulo State University (UNESP) and a master’s in translation studies from the Federal University at Santa Catarina (UFSC), in Brazil. Marian Dougan |
A French- and Italian-to-English translator (and former chocolate-shop owner), Marian Dougan began translating in the 1980s and has been translating full time since 2000. She is currently working as an in-house translator and editor at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt. She also worked for 15 years at the British Embassy in Rome. Marian’s specialist translation subjects are economy and finance; energy, competition and social policy; and international affairs. In September 2014 Marian obtained User Experience Certification, with specialisation in Web Design, from the Nielsen Norman Group. A firm believer in educational outreach, Marian teaches a Masterclass in Translating for the Web at Glasgow and Stirling Universities and gives talks on language learning to local schools. She is Convenor and Deputy Webmaster for Scotnet, the Institute of Translation and Interpreting’s Scottish network. Her sessions are:

John Di Rico began translating in 2005 and specializes in financial translation and marketing from French to English. Paula Arturo is a lawyer, translator, and former Professor of Law. She is Assistant Administrator of the ATA’s Literary Division and Co-Director of Translating Lawyers, a boutique firm specializing in legal and financial translation. She is an independent lawyer-linguist for the United Nations Universal Periodic Review process of several Latin American States and a legal-linguistic consultant for various international organizations. Born in 1967, I met my first TMs in 1992, hated them first, then realized it was quite fun and useful to work with them, then couldn't think of translating without them, even when they're totally empty. After a few work experiences including IBM, I joined Amnesty International in 2004, as a translator and revisor. Dr Izabela Mrochen |
Izabela Mrochen has a Master’s Degree in Pedagogy and Psychology (1995), English linguistics (1998), and a PhD in historical linguistics (2009) from the University of Silesia, Poland. Ms Mrochen started to be interested in translation and preparing subtitles in the late 1990s. This is why, she visited the Copenhagen University to broaden and apply her knowledge she had acquired at university. Being an academic, she started to integrate CAT programs in the university curriculum and became certified as a memoQ trainer. She has taken part in a wide range of conferences on new technologies in the field of translation and interpretation. Her active interests have been taken to improve the trainee translator’s competence for the job market and support the basic objectives of the European Master’s in Translation program. What is more, Ms Mrochen has been interested in software localization tools and cloud computing so as to familiarize students with translating graphical user interfaces. She is responsible for organizing training for academic teachers organized by Consortium for Translation Education Research in Cracow, Poland. Since 2012, she has been supporting the idea of accessibility - social and digital inclusion. The issues of preparing good websites according to WCAG rules have influenced Ms Mrochen’s interests. As a member of Working Group of Digital Content on the Internet Accessibility in Ministry of Administration and Digitization, Poland, Ms Mrochen has organized and conducted workshops at a range of conferences.
