Frequently Asked Questions on Buying a Wordfast License
Where do I get the "full version" of Wordfast after I pay?
Wordfast is a try-before-you-buy program. You actually install it on your machine (in demo mode) before making your decision whether or not to purchase the software. The demo version has all features activated, and runs the same way the normal program does. However, the demo version is limited to a Translation Memory size of 500 units. Once you've purchased a license, you receive a license number, which must be entered in Wordfast. After the license number is added, the TM size limitation is lifted, and you are free to work on Translation Memories of any size. During the purchasing process, you actually obtain a license number, as you're able to download the full version of the software for free. To obtain a license number, click here to purchase Wordfast.

Do you have a representative or dealer in my country?
Wordfast services its global customer base from offices in France and the Czech Republic. Currently, Wordfast is only sold directly from the web. This helps us keep our prices low. Please note: There are probably expert users in your region that provide Wordfast training. For more information, see the support section of our website. However, distribution and sales are only through www.wordfast.com (high bandwidth customers) and www.wordfast.net (low bandwidth customers).

Do you accept any other forms payment beyond what is listed on your website?
Wordfast sales are handled primarily over the web. Customers are provided links to secure payment pages from highly-reputable financial partners which accept credit cards, direct bank transfers, cheques, and Postal Money Orders (cash). Payment may also be processed via Pay Pal. As is customary for online sales, an invoice accompanies your purchase. For those corporate customers purchasing site licenses, server-based TM or other enterprise solutions, please contact us.

After purchasing, how long will I be able to use Wordfast?
A Wordfast license is valid as long as the "Install" number displayed by Wordfast does not change. This install number is based upon the physical characteristics of your computer. This Install number can change if you change computer, change or format hard disk (PC) or change OS or Word version (Mac). In this case, you will need to re-license Wordfast. This re-licensing is free for three years from the date of purchase. See the Wordfast User License Agreement for more information. Provided your install number doesn’t change, you may continue to use Wordfast indefinitely.

How do I get upgrades to newer versions?
With few exceptions, you may, for three years after you buy a license, upgrade your version of Wordfast to the latest release for free. After three years, you are permitted to buy a new license (often at a discounted price). Access to the hotline must then be purchased separately.

I'm a student, can I have Wordfast for free?
Please read our gratuity clause. To ensure a fair treatment to all, and to help keep Wordfast's price low, there are no exceptions. However, if you are a student, your professor or educational institution can make application for complimentary versions of Wordfast as a whole, for you and other students in your class.

Installation failed. What do I do?
Make sure you read and followed the procedures in the manual. Make sure you are using the latest version by downloading here (English Version). See the sections on "Installation" and "Troubleshooting". If you cannot resolve your issue, please type Alt+F11 in MS Word (or use the Tools>Macros>Visual Basic Editor menu) to open the Visual Basic window. Use the Tools>Options dialog box and go to the "General" tab. Tick the lower of the three options in "Error recuperation" group (this options says "Stop on unknown errors only". Check both check boxes in the "Compilation" group. Close the Visual Basic window. In MS Word, again make sure that the Tools>Macros>Security setting (if there is such a menu) is set to "Low". Close Word, open it again and re-try installing. As a last resort, if your version of MS Word is 97 or above, try installing Wordfast on another computer as a test run. Then consider de-installing/re-installing Word or Office on your computer.

Is Wordfast compatible with other tools?
Wordfast is the most open of all professional TM tools, and maintains the highest level of compatibility with other products. This is part of our development philosophy. However, this question is very general (compatibility could include TMs, glossaries, documents, machine translation engines, etc.). For a full article on the question, click access the Wordfast Knowledge Base. Enter "Wordfast compatibility" in the Search box and read more on your particular topic of interest. You may also read information "Integrating Wordfast in existing Workflows" found in the Products section of our website.
