Quick overview:
- macOS 27 has been released. It runs WF Pro;
- macOS 28 is due in one year, we cannot confirm whether it will run Wordfast Pro.
If you have an Intel-powered Mac, and need Wf Pro, stay on a macOS prior to Sonoma 14.4.
What follows is relevant if your have an M-series chip (M1, M2, or later).
Our developers cannot know whether a future Apple OS powers Wordfast Pro until they get the final/public release. I mean public release. Betas may not have all features enabled, like Rosetta. Rosetta is Apple's compatibility layer that Wordfast Pro needs.
What about next year - macOS 28? Nothing forces you to immediately upgrade on day 1 of the macOS 28 release - but we understand you will eventually want to do so. So our advice is:
- If you have a secondary machine (professional translators should not bet their life on a single computer), upgrade that other machine, and see whether WF Pro runs there. You can activate WF Pro on more than one machine. No other machine? Find a friend who's willing to try WF Pro on their upgraded machine, it takes a few minutes.
- If you don't have access to a secondary machine, simply wait for our green light. It won't be long after the real, public macOS 28 release.
- If/when you upgrade, have a way back to the original OS. There are various ways to do that: use the new OS rollback option, if it exists; or use Time Machine; or clone your hard disk, etc.
Meanwhile, we are working hard to find a way to redesign WF Pro for both the new Apple processors and OS.
