Using Regular Expressions (Regex) in Wordfast Pro

Stefan Stefanov

Verdanza Grand Ballroom

Regular expressions (regex) are an important part of using a CAT tool at the intermediate to advanced level. Regex can be used for a variety of purposes from filtering the source and or target content of a file, to batch editing multiple target segments; from capturing untranslatable placeholders and variables to convert them into tags in standard file types such as MS Word, MS Excel, and others, to creating custom translatable content extraction rules when working with non-standard file types. This session will demonstrate all four applications in Wordfast Pro.

Trained vs. Untrained MT

Jamie Lucero

Verdanza Grand Ballroom

The discussion used to be something like, “Machine Translation (MT): Should you, or shouldn’t you?” Things have moved so quickly that the question now is how to maximize the impact of MT on your work. Rather than focusing on the quantity of source words that can be processed by MT, this session explores getting better MT results through training. We will use OPUS-CAT as an example of how to train an MT engine, compare the results of untrained and trained OPUS-CAT results, and finally discuss training strategies, such as what kinds of bilingual material to use.
